Spring Cleaning Tricks and Tips

Cleaning the house isn’t usually something we look forward to, but it’s definitely  something that makes us feel better afterwards. Even though it’s not always the most inspiring task, it’s essential in keeping a happy and healthy home. That’s why we have put together this handy go to blog with some helpful spring cleaning tips and advice!

Make a schedule

Make a plan! Think about what areas of your home need the most attention? Where do you prefer to ignore because it seems like too much of a big job? Those places are the best to start. Having a plan for each room will keep you motivated and focused on the job at hand!

De-clutter

Having a good old de-clutter makes you feel more efficient and keeps you organised. Clutter also has psychological influences- it tells your brain that work isn’t complete. According to studies, a disorganised home adds to your stress level. With clutter comes dust - and a lot of it! Also nobody wants to come home to a messy house – it can really take a toll on you mentally! Set aside some time to organise your home and de-clutter before you clean.
  • Organise you wardrobes
  • Look through the junk drawer
  • Dust and organise
You’ll soon feel refreshed and accomplished after a good old de-clutter!

Always work from the bottom

To ensure you’re off to a good start for your spring clean, it’s important to always work from the bottom. This will bring any debris downwards and keep you from having to re-dust time and time over. If you have a vacuum with an extension hose, you can use it to get rid of cobwebs and dust from your ceilings. Then after you’ve covered your ceilings, start to dust your furniture and other items before vacuuming all the dust and from your floors- this will save you plenty of time!

Walls and Windows

People will always keep their floors clean, but we seem to neglect our walls and windows. Not all dust settles on will settle on the floor and other surfaces. By using a damp towel you can remove dust from walls and blinds (starting from the top). We have a range of products that can help you with your windows such as the best-selling Aristowax Invisible Window Cleaner.

Tackle your blinds

Tackle the dreaded blinds! If you own Venetian blinds, you’ll know how awkward they are to clean. We’ve got a handy tip to help you tackle this over-looked area of the house. Have a look in your kitchen to see if your have a pair of tongs, use some microfibre cloths and attach them to the tongs with rubber bands. Start one blind strip at a time and go in-between with your tongs, swiping away all dust and grime! Simple!

Cleaning hacks

#1 – Clean your skirting boards
Run a microfibre cloth along your skirting boards everytime you clean. You’ll soon notice what a big difference it makes in the overall finish!
#2 - Say goodbye to showerhead dirt
Clean off the buildup of limescale on your shower head by tying a plastic bag full of warm white vinegar around the head and leaving it overnight.
#3 Disenfect your sponges in the microwave
Put a damp sponge in the microwave to eliminate bacteria for just 99 seconds on full power. We use our kitchen sponge to clean our dishes, utensils and sometimes even countertops. Unfortunately studies have shown that this is likely to be spreading millions of bacteria around the home.
#4 Remove mildew spots with vodka
That bottle of vodka in your cupboard is good for more than just making cocktails! If you have a buildup of mildew and mould in your bathroom or kitchen, using vodka to clean it will solve your problems in no time. Fill a spray bottle with 50% water and 50% vodka and leave it on the mildew area for around 10 minutes. The vodka will not only clean the area but will also kill the mildew particles too!
