Spring has arrived and we are ready for the longer, brighter days ahead! Spring is a great time to get back out into the garden and for bringing your outdoor space back to life after a long, cold winter.

If you don’t know where to start, and your garden isn’t quite ready for visitors, we have a few tips and tricks to give your garden the attention and love it deserves - on a budget!

Before you get to the fun part of adding personality and colour, it’s a good idea to get down to basics and tidy up the after effects of the harsh winter weather. You can start by mowing the lawn, neatening up borders and removing those pesky weeds.

Another place to spruce up is garden walls and fences. A lick of paint will do wonders for your garden, completely transforming the overall look of your outdoor space. Paint will also help to preserve wood and keep it protected from weathering.

Top tip:

If you have a smaller garden, then opt for green or grey paint as they are ideal colours for creating an illusion of space. And whilst you have your paintbrushes out, why not give your garden furniture a revamp. If you’ve got tired wooden furniture in the garden why not give it sanding down and give it a lick of paint for a complete transformation.

Paths and patios are also areas that you’ll want to pay some attention to. They may have gone a musky shade of green over time, so it’s time to give them a new look. Here at FabFinds we have a great range of patio and path cleaner, perfect for taking the hard work out of cleaning your paths and patios.

Inject some colour

You might think that the only way to add colour is with the plants and flowers, however there’s plenty of ways you can feature pops of colour in your garden. If you have some leftover outdoor paint why not give your garden furniture or wooden bench a new lease of life by giving it a lick of paint.

If you have a smaller garden, using plant pots around your garden will help to brighten up your space. Why not have a rummage in the shed and see if you can source some old pots that you can get creative with. Clean them up and have a go at pot painting using some outdoor paint. You can even get the little ones involved too!

If you don’t have any planters then why not recycle some old tins and cans? Simply drill some holes into the bottom and decorate them with some brightly coloured paint and designs. You can attach these to a string and hang off fencing or walls or add them to garden shelving.

Add some personal touches

A nice way to add your own personal touch on your garden or outdoor space is by introducing garden décor and ornaments. Garden gnomes will be perfect for adding some fun and character to your garden. Other ornaments such as floral garden stakes and flocked characters are perfect for keeping your garden full of interest and colour.

Bird baths are also great ways to encourage lots of new feathered friends into your garden. Ensure you keep it topped up with fresh water so it doesn’t freeze over in the winter months and enjoy watching your new bird friends flock to your garden for their daily wash!
