De-clutter
Make sure to start with a good de-clutter before you start the big clean. It will help you have a clear space to clean and will get rid of anything in the bathroom that’s not needed.
- Throw out any old toiletries such as empty shampoo bottles and shower gel
- Remove all products from the bath/shower area so you have a space to clean
- Remove all objects from surfaces such as soap and tooth brush pots
- Put towels and bathmats into the wash
- Empty the rubbish from any bins

Dust and sweep
The key to dusting is to start from the top. Get a duster on a long handle to tackle any cobwebs up high and carefully work your way around your light fittings and air vents. After you’ve done this, you can start vacuuming away any dust, hair and debris that might be hanging around.
Shower, bath and sink
Next, it’s time to move onto the shower, bath and sink. A good scrub down of the shower and bath will prevent any build up of mould, limescale and grime as well as stopping drains from getting blocks up.
Tiles
Begin by applying bathroom cleaning spray to the tiles and then wait for this to soak for as long as advised on the bottle. Rinse the surfaces down with the shower head, then simply dry with a towel.
If you have black mould stuck in between your tiles, using bleach will help. Apply some bleach to your cloth and rub into the grout. You can also soak cotton wool balls in bleach and rest them along the side of the bath. Leave them to work their magic for 1-2 hours and then rinse down with a shower head. Ensure you wear gloves throughout.
Shower head
Get your shower head gleaming again!
- Remove your shower head from the hook
- Fill a bag with white vinegar and take the shower head apart, so all the components are exposed
- Get a plastic bag and tie and elastic band/ hair bobble around it to secure it, then leave overnight to soak
- You should now be left with a sparkling clean shower head however go over it with an old toothbrush to ensure you’ve removed all the limescale
Drains
If you can, try to pull out the shower drain and dispose of any build up. Put it back and pour some drain cleaner down the drain, leaving it for the advised time for the build-up to clear.
Shower Doors
Shower doors are a bit of a nightmare to keep on top of, however we’ve put together a step by step guide to get it looking clean again:
- Spray down the door using the shower head
- Apply white vinegar all over to the shower door using a spray bottle
- Use a sponge to wipe away the spray
- Dry the glass with a microfibre cloth
- Use a glass cleaner to finish off with a microfibre cloth
Taps
If your taps have a build-up of limescale around the end and bath tops, then using a lemon can work wonders. Simply cut the lemon in half and stick it on the end of the taps. Leave over night and by the morning you should be able to easily remove the limescale with a sponge!
Toilet
Begin by cleaning the outside of the toilet, then work your way towards the bowl. Using a cloth and multipurpose cleaner, wipe down the outer parts of the toilet, then the seat and underneath. Once this is complete then leave it to dry.
Next thing to do is to coat the toilet bowl in toilet gel and leave to soak for a few minutes, then scrub the bowl after with a toilet brush. Make sure you target the hidden areas under the seat so you get rid of any hard water strains and build up. Give it a flush and the toilet should not be sparkling clean! Finish it off with a toilet rim block for extra freshness.
Floor
Last but not least, give the floor a good mop. Whether you’ll be using a mop with hot water and solution or your prefer using floor wipes on a mop for a faster approach, make sure you get to all the crevices of the bathroom to remove any hidden dirt or debris. Once mopped leave to dry!
